Chinese media blames US for paying competitors to 'ruin' Winter Olympics

BEIJING 29 JANUARY 2022 (VOE WORLD) The United States is paying competitors to "make aggravations" during the Beijing Winter Olympics, Chinese state media has revealed, drawing a prompt refusal from the US government office in China.

The China Daily paper, refering to "sources acquainted with the matter", said on Saturday there was a plot by Washington to convince competitors to "play inactively" or decline to partake in contests and "express discontent toward China".


"The sources focused on that Washington's arrangement is another model exhibiting endeavors by some enemy of China powers in the United States to politicize sports and vindictively disturb and ruin the Beijing Winter Olympic Games," the article said.
